Conestoga Boys Lacrosse giving back

Lead fundraising team for the Katie Samson Foundation crowdfunding campaign

The Conestoga Boys Lacrosse program had a busy weekend as they took on 2018 State Champions Manheim Township and also participated in a weekend long crowdfunding campaign to support the Katie Samson Foundation. The campaign was created as an opportunity for each team participating in the 19th annual Katie Samson Laxfest to have a concentrated fundraising effort to support the work of the foundation. Conestoga Boys players called alumni, local supporters, friends and family asking them to donate to the cause.

When the campaign wrapped up on Sunday night, Conestoga had raised $4,015 – four times their fundraising goal and well ahead of the other teams. Each of the three varsity captains had groups of players on their "team" and this added a spirit of competitiveness and fun to their fundraising appeals. Captain Michael Jameison's team raised $1,725 with sophomore Aidan Kelly raising $725. The players enjoyed having the opportunity to talk Stoga lacrosse alumni and connect with them through the campaign.

The Katie Samson Foundation provides support to those with spinal cord injury through research, rehabilitation treatments, and programs that provide much needed independence and quality of life improvement. Katie's brother, Brian Samson, is a guidance counselor at Conestoga and also the former head coach of the Boys Lacrosse program. Senior Will Bryan stated "Playing in the Katie Samson Festival is always one of the highlights of the season for our team. We all grew up watching the games and couldn't wait until we were able to participate. Having Coach Samson speak to us really helped us to understand the history and importance of the festival and inspired us to do everything that we could to support it."

This year marks the 19th anniversary of the Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival and will feature a record setting 54 teams. The Conestoga Boys Lacrosse team will be playing Penn Charter on the main field and it promises to be a great matchup between the two teams.

The Conestoga Boys Lacrosse team's motto for this season is "Work Hard, Have Fun, Get It Done" and they are committed to living that motto on the field, in the classroom and in their community.
